Benign Enlargement Vs. Cancer

Benign enlargement or BPH is not cancer. It usually develops near the urethra in the inner part of the prostate, which can block urine flow and lead to a weak stream, urgency, or frequent nighttime urination. Prostate cancer begins when cells grow out of control, often in the outer part of the gland. Early prostate cancer often may not have symptoms, so testing is important. It is possible for a man to have BPH, prostate cancer, or both at the same time.
