Selenium and Vitamin E, What Studies Changed

Large studies changed advice about selenium and vitamin E supplements for prostate cancer prevention. The SELECT trial tested selenium, vitamin E, both together, or placebo. Vitamin E did not protect men and was linked to a higher prostate cancer risk. Selenium also did not prevent prostate cancer. Food sources are different from high-dose pills, and normal diet levels are not the same as supplement megadoses. Talk with your care team before taking supplements, especially during treatment.
